  • Overview

A great vehicle is all about freedom—from that initial taste we all experienced when we finally got our license to our ongoing ability to hit the road and go wherever we want at any time—and there is nothing else quite like it. Now it's time to enjoy freedom from the gas pump with electric vehicles (EVs), which are designed to provide us with incredible performance and an amazing driving experience with no emissions or the need to ever stop for gas again. Whether you're interested in trying out an EV for the first time or already have some experience with all-electric freedom, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S is an amazing choice that'll have you fully experiencing this newfound liberation.

There are several different VW ID.4 models available, but the Pro S is one of our favorites as it provides you with progressive performance, savvy tech features, and supple comfort compared to the starting Standard model. In part, this is due to the fact that the Pro S comes with an impressive 82-kWh battery, whereas the Standard ID.4 comes with a 62-kWh battery. While they are both excellent options, the Pro S gets a superior range from a full charge thanks to the improved capacity of its battery. You can also choose between a Pro S model with a single motor and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or an AWD Pro S with a pair of motors for boosted power and electric all-wheel drive (eAWD) capability.

Inside and out, the Pro S trim comes with a number of upgrades over the Standard model, such as larger 20-inch wheels compared to the 19-inch base wheels, and an Adaptive Front Lighting system for superior visibility when driving at night. Inside the Pro S, you will find comfortable twelve-way power front seats that are heated and include a massage function designed to ensure you look forward to every opportunity to get behind the wheel. You also get a multi-function heated steering wheel in the Pro S, along with V-Tex leatherette seating, a 12.0-inch infotainment display, and wireless charging for your compatible devices. Combine all that with advanced safety features—like Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Assist—and you have an exceptional EV designed to meet your needs.

  • Performance

A grey 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S Plus is shown driving on an open road.

Although the starting trim, the Volkswagen ID.4 Standard, is a great vehicle, there is no denying that VW has gone above and beyond with features on the ID.4 Pro S. First and foremost among them is the superior battery, providing you with better charging capability and range. Even though you are leaving the gas pump behind with the ID.4, you still want to pick the right EV that meets your driving needs; Auburn and the Greater Seattle Area are great places to own an EV since there are so many charging stations around, but you should still consider your options.

With the VW ID.4 Standard, you get a 62-kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of up to 209 miles from a full charge. That is plenty of range for what most drivers need on a regular basis, but if you like to go on longer road trips, then an increased range will let you cover more distance between stops. Choosing the ID.4 Pro S gets you an 82-kWh battery that gets an EPA-estimated 275 miles of range from a full charge. You can see this is a pretty significant increase and well worth considering if you need an EV designed to really go the distance.

In terms of performance, you have two models available to consider: the traditional ID.4 Pro S and an ID.4 AWD Pro S with improved power and performance. The Pro S comes with a single motor that delivers 201 hp for a great driving experience; choosing the AWD Pro S gets you a model with a pair of motors that provides you with 295 hp and an incredible time on the road.

We love this AWD Pro S for living and driving in the Seattle area since it can help you maintain traction when the weather gets wet. Just keep in mind that the ID.4 AWD Pro S gets an EPA-estimated 255 miles of range from a full charge, so you do slightly sacrifice driving distance for this increase in power and capability.

  • Features

    A person is shown driving a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S.

Just like any other vehicle, a great EV needs to include technology and other features that improve your driving experience each day. For example, the 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S comes with automatic LED headlights with Adaptive Front Lighting designed to provide you with superior visibility in dark conditions, with LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights. You get a Hands-Free Easy Open and Easy Close remote power rear liftgate on the ID.4 Pro S, which makes it easier to load and unload at the back of this crossover model, along with heated, foldable, power-adjustable side mirrors.

These impressive features keep going once you look inside the ID.4 Pro S, starting with advanced keyless access with proximity unlocking and Climatronic dual-zone automatic climate control that makes it easy to get in and hit the road in comfort. Speaking of comfort, the Pro S features heated twelve-way power-adjustable front seats with four-way lumbar support, position memory, and a massage function. These V-Tex leatherette seats are incredibly comfortable and quite durable; plus, you get a heated, multi-function steering wheel that is perfect for cold mornings here in Auburn.

One of our favorite things about the 2023 ID.4 Pro S is the Volkswagen ID.Cockpit digital instrument display it comes with, which makes it easy to keep track of the drive data you need and customize your driving experience thereafter. You also get multi-color adjustable ambient lighting inside that you can match to your mood, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, wireless charging for compatible devices, and Voice Control with an ID.Light that provides you with feedback and alerts through an illuminated bar up front. With a 12.0-inch infotainment display and built-in navigation to round things out, you get an amazing driving experience every time you get inside the ID.4 Pro S.

  • Safety

A dark blue 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S Plus is shown parked on a driveway next to a family.

We've said this before, and we'll say it again: When looking at a vehicle, nothing is more important than how well it can help protect you and the people you care about. The nicest interior and flashiest performance are meaningless if a vehicle doesn't work hard to ensure you and your family get home safely each day. Thankfully, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S has a gorgeous interior, flashy performance, and incredible safety features.

You get Adaptive Cruise Control with the ID.4 Pro S, which lets you set a speed, and the ID.4 will do its best to maintain it while adjusting to traffic conditions through braking and accelerating. You also get Front Assist which includes a forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking to warn you of a potential crash and help you avoid it. Dynamic Road Sign Display comes standard to help you with road signs you might not see, along with Light Assist, which can activate your high beams in dark conditions and deactivate them to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

The ID.4 Pro S comes with an Active Blind Spot Monitor for vehicles alongside you, as well as a Rear Traffic Alert to warn you when a car is crossing behind you while you are backing up. Most impressive of all, the Pro S even comes with a Park Assist Plus system with Memory Parking. This system can automatically get your ID.4 into or out of a parking spot when you activate it, taking over for you and making your daily drive easier. All of this technology comes together to make the ID.4 Pro S safe and improve your experience every time you hit the road.
